Click the text and change it

Click into the preview, type, and what to do when a text will not take a click

Set the switch above the preview to “Edit”. Then click the text you want to change, right in the preview. On the right, the panel “Edit field” opens with exactly that text. Type the new version there. The preview shows it at once, letter by letter.

You do not need to know what the field is called. The page itself is your table of contents.

Below the text box you find two helpers:

  • A counter such as “31 / 200”: how many characters the field holds, and how many it allows
  • “Other languages”: the same text in the other languages of your website, so you can keep them in step (Chapter 13)

Longer texts come with a small toolbar: bold (⌘B), italic (⌘I), a link from the selected words, a subheading, “• List” and “1. List”, “↵ Break” for a line break, and “Paste without formatting” for text copied from Word or an email.

Headlines and short fields have no toolbar. Their size and weight come from the design and stay as they are, even if you replace the text completely.

Some texts appear everywhere, in the menu or in the footer. When you open one, the panel says so: “This text is shared and appears on several pages. The change applies everywhere.”

That is usually exactly right. Take a look before you save anyway. The tab “Shared” on the left lists all of these texts in one place.

Not every text can be clicked. Open the tab “Fields” on the left and type a word from the text into the filter. The list holds every text of the open page, grouped by section.

If it is not in the list either, it belongs to the design rather than to the content. A short message to us clears that up.

Where your website allows it, a picture can be clicked like a text. The panel then shows “Replace image”. JPG, PNG, GIF and WebP work, miraCMS makes the file smaller for the web by itself.

Some pages show changing content one after another, for example examples that swap at the very top. miraCMS holds that movement still: “This page has animations. Pick a step to see and edit the text that appears there.” Pick a step, and the preview shows its text.
