Receipts & Tax Invoices

What the guest gets after paying, and the rules in Thailand

Only for businesses in Thailand that are registered for VAT. miraTEQ switches it on.

VAT registration becomes mandatory at 1.8 million baht in annual sales. A business that is not registered must not issue tax invoices, which is a criminal offence in Thailand. That is why the feature is off by default. miraTEQ switches it on once you have shown your VAT certificate ภ.พ.20, and copies your company name, address and tax ID exactly as they appear on it.

Then two things apply to your menu:

  • Prices are final prices including VAT. The guest pays what the menu says. The receipt works out the tax share, 7% today.
  • Every dish needs a Thai or English name. No other language is allowed on a tax document.
Receipt When it is created VAT shown as its own amount
Receipt (ใบเสร็จรับเงิน) After every payment, as long as no till approval is entered No. It carries the note ไม่ใช่ใบกำกับภาษี, not a tax invoice
Abbreviated tax invoice (ใบกำกับภาษีอย่างย่อ) After every payment, once the till approval is entered Yes, together with the POS ID
Tax invoice (ใบกำกับภาษีเต็มรูป) When the guest asks for it. They give their name and address, a company also its tax ID Yes

Each kind has its own gapless number series: R-000001, ABB-000001, INV-000001. A tax invoice replaces the receipt it belongs to and names its number.

When guests pay by PromptPay themselves, a link to their receipt appears under “Your receipts” after they confirm. When the cashier or a waiter settles the bill, the bar at the bottom of the menu shows “Receipt” with its number. One tap opens it.

The receipt opens in its own window. With “Print or save as PDF” the guest prints or files it. Every receipt carries a QR code at the bottom that leads to the digital copy, even from the printed paper.

Below the receipt the guest can request the tax invoice themselves. After “Issue tax invoice” it cannot be changed.

Owners and managers see the Receipts tab, and so does the cashier. It lists every receipt of one day:

Column Shows
Time Your local time, not the server’s
Number Receipt number, below it the matching tax invoice or the guest’s name
Type Receipt, abbreviated or tax invoice
Amount, VAT Final amount and the VAT it contains

At the top you see the day’s total with the VAT it contains. That is your daily closing. Tax invoices are not counted twice there, since each one replaces a receipt. “CSV” downloads the list for your accountant, “Print” puts it on A4.

“Open” shows a receipt ready to print. “Tax invoice” issues one for a guest who asks at the counter. After every payment in the Cashier tab, the panel shows the new receipt number at the bottom right.

A till may only issue abbreviated tax invoices once the Revenue Department has approved it. A computer or tablet counts as a till, so miraMENU does too. The business applies itself at its local revenue office, form ภ.พ.06, separately for every branch, also online. Your till then has a POS ID. miraTEQ enters it, and from then on every payment creates an abbreviated tax invoice.

A PDF on the guest’s phone only counts as a tax invoice in Thailand if it goes through the Revenue Department’s e-Tax procedure. miraMENU does not offer that. Paper is what counts: print the tax invoice for a company guest and hand it over.
